In a recent About Early Years bulletin, ‘Counting the Cost in Spring 2019’ Ceeda have reported some worrying statistics on Childminder delivery costs.

The report states that “As of 31st December 2018, there were 39.700 childminders registered with Ofsted.”

“Recent research commissioned by DfE found 70% of childminders take a salary or draw earnings at below minimum wage. Low earnings are a significant factor in declining numbers with 8,200 childminders having left the Ofsted register since September 2015. When labour is costed on the basis of comparable nursery pay rates (matched by location and qualification level) the average delivery cost in childminder settings is an estimated £5.10 per hour.”
